Descrizione Opera / Biografia
Let’s be is an ongoing project from 2012 where I collect these moments on my phone where I try physically to morph or become one with people and environment which I have had intimate relationship with in some way. I see it as way to expand the self and the same time evaporate it through intimacy. I turn these moments into constant video loops as way to preserve it and maybe also document my journey threw life and my surroundings. I’m not sure when or if this series will ever get over maybe this will be my constant ongoing project.
Dagrun Adalsteinsdottir graduated from Icelandic Academy of the Arts in 2013 and has been very active exhibiting in the local scene in Iceland. She also has worked in the Reykjavík Art Museum with school and was working at the Icelandic pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2013. Dagrún traveled alone to India in 2011 and was there for 6 months and from that time she developed a keen interest in eastern philosophy and culture. From that interest she went on to take her M.A in Fine Art in Singapore where she is currently studying at Lasalle.
In her work the body plays a key role where she is constantly dealing with the process of transformations. Her work is in strong correlation with the shaman, alchemy, yoga and tantra where the physical is a way to the metaphysical.
“ My art is a way to expand or dissolve the self and the body as it transforms or morphs with another. This friction between elements constantly evoke questions whether the self is dissolving or expanding. The dissolution releases tension while the expansion is stimulating and the self flickers in between, seeking gratification in the unknown. Could it be that evaporation is the final stage of expansion? And could it be that the impulse to expand is really the desire to dissolve?”
Dagrun’s most recent exhibition is a part of the Icelandic biennale Sequences VII theme for this year is “Plumbing” and curator is Alfredo Cramerotti. This summer Dagrun will travel and work on her art in India and from there she goes of to residency with the CEAC(Chinese European Art Center) in Xiamen China.
