My grandmother - a seamstress and upholsterer - had a mastectomy as a result of breast cancer. As well as being hugely grateful to the surgeon for saving her life, she was almost equally appreciative of the beautiful job he made of stitching up the wound. In making Ectomy I wanted to reflect on that.
