Descrizione Opera / Biografia
This sculptural series utilizes a mass produced figurine of a Laughing Buddha. The process of this work began by creating a mold of one Buddha, and then making a copy of the Buddha from the mold. From the copy-Buddha a mold was then made, and a copy of the copy was cast, and so on and so forth. Throughout the process, the mold-making and copying is followed systematically and no alterations to the system are made. This means that any changes or imperfections occurring in the figure and molds become part of the system. Over time, the Laughing Buddha and the molds from which they are made are changing form. Each reproduction is an individual unique object even though it remains a copy (of a copy of a copy...). However, since each individual Buddha has its own mold, they can potentially be individually copied indefinitely.
