Descrizione Opera / Biografia

Milene Gandolfi, aka Mil, was born in 1980 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The sensory perception of each experience was for her an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Conflicting thoughts, landscapes and rhythms of life in turn nourished her creativity. Mil therefore went to study design at the in Milan Polytechnic. Returning to Brazil she tool stock of and contemplated the uniqueness of her native environment. And so painting naturally imposed itself as the best way to express beauty. Sometimes critical, sometimes funny and emotional, her creations reflect the facets of her identity. She suggests a subtle reflection on simple beauty through icons, portraits or scenes of typical brazilian life. The artist seeks to find harmony between these elements and extract the poetic dimension. Her paintings encourage the viewer to reflect on the motto of her country ”Order and Progress”. Through her creations, Mil shares her passion for nature, culture, places and human behaviour, revealing both the balance and contrast. Mil loves experimenting with new techniques. She mixes them in search of colours and the effects of unusual materials. Based on her lines of thought, she performs extensive research a topic to build a bank of information and images. Once the ”thematic atmosphere”is established, she uses computer graphics and collage techniques to transcribe it. She then paints over the composition with gouache or acrylic. The artist compares the messy mixing of layers and techniques to the Brazilian identity, a product of successive waves of migration from around the world. Much like her country, so her paintings brilliantly produce a harmony of colours and tend to make us awake of the scope of our interaction with the world.
