Artwork description / Biography

ARTWORK DESCRIPTION:
A collaboration occurred between artists in Ithaca New York and Beijing China on the premise of sharing traditional and new technological processes to further Fine Art making. Elisabeth Meyer worked with the guidance of master printers in Beijing studios to produce a body of works. Masking Principles I (Alice) is one of a suite of six woodcuts that employ a visual narrative, derived from collaged Durer imagery, to address a cyclical history of cultural upheaval.
BIO:
Elisabeth Haly Meyer is an Associate Professor in Cornell University’s Department of Art where she teaches printmaking, drawing, and painting at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Her work investigates the serial image, the multiple and the potential for ‘tangential’ narratives, often through book or folio format and references architecture, nature, and history.
