Descrizione Opera / Biografia

ARTWORK DESCRIPTION
My work often starts with an investigation: What can an elemental line do? How many different ways can one unfold a house flat?
Trying to answer these self-imposed questions, I work systematically, with recurring themes of structures and rhythms, of repetitions and variations, often subverting the system I started with. Just as important as the rigor in my process is the expressive quality of the work. Etching, aquatint and more recently, spit bite, have become my methods of choice.
Here, in the series ‘Glow’, each work (Slip, Free, Lean, Open, Lift, etc) refers to the operation enacted upon a generic volume, the cube. I asked myself: How can a cube be opened to create a space? Again, an attempt at working on a simple element, exploring multiplicity, working serially. Each work in the series has a mysterious force transforming the mass, cracking open the cube to create an opening of sort, maybe a space, a hearth, maybe a home.
