The artist Gudrun Dorsch thematizes boundaries in physical or mental overcoming. Her paintings and drawings show charismatic people reduced to ribbons. The figures often appear androgynous, but are usually defined as female or male. Mysterious and inscrutable, they lead the viewer into their own mysteriousness. Gudrun Dorsch understands her works not as pure paintings, but rather as communicators of interhumanity or transmitters for self-reflection.
Why wrapped?
The spiral is of great importance in all cultures. It is a symbol of joie de vivre but also of inner order. Last but not least, our DNA is a double helix and without DNA there would be no life. So we are connected to the universe with a band!
...When you start a play on words with „band“, „tapes“, or „wraps“, there are countless terms, e.g. entangled, wrapped, entangled, tamed, bound, connected, bound, unleashed, which very often have to do with boundaries.
Man has many limits. He permanently tries to cover them up, to disguise or to euphemise them. Our own body language is treacherous. It conveys unintentionally unpublished and unspoken information very directly. Visual communication through movement is spiritual, magical and expressive.
In search of the ultimate language, Gudrun Dorsch plays and philosophizes with her picture titles and the resulting perceptions.
Without prefabricated answers, the mysterious and usually color-intensive works offer much room for interpretation and own sensations.
