Paul Funcken (1958)
I studied art in Tilburg, after which I gained further developed and the degree of specialization glass art. In Belgium I learned to master the technical aspects of the glass. I was teached by various well known artists and developed my own visual language. I’m a visual and graphic creative professional. ”I am often approached for graphic design projects and as an artist. My work consists commercial contracts and free work.
I think that every artist should be a craftsman: that makes the work better. If you have mastered the technique, you can explore it. I’ve put a lot of energy during my career in the accumulation of knowledge and technology.
About my work
Im my artworks you can discover a relationship with architecture. I find inspiration in buildings from ancient or modern architecture. I use elements I transform it my way or put them in a different perspective. ”The last two years I focus more on natural forms of housing, used all over the world, natural or recycled materials which I find quite fascinating. I often work with combinations of materials: glass with wood, stone or bronze. Kiln casting technique suits best for me. I work mostly with pure materials, characterized by the austere little or no color. ”
