ARTWORK DESCRIPTION:
Most ofthe time I paint in acrylic and experiment with mixed media techniques. ”Le coq se bat avec Marine” is a fine art print (on Hahnemühle paper) based on my acrylic ”double painting” (Le coq se bat avec Marine/La victoire du coq).
My paintings are abstract and informal compositions and chance and intuition becomes the impulse generator. Sometimes I’m reacting unconsciously like a seismograph to what happens around me and at events oft he day.
One of the things that has particularly moved and affected me 2017 has been undoubtedly the French presidential election fearing that right-wing populist Marine Le Pen could be elected president. Unconsciously it has also influenced my artistic work: the intuitive grasp of the French national colors red, white, blue. After finishing this painting I suddenly recognized a grotesque distorted face of a woman fighting with a rooster, the Gallic rooster, the French heraldic animal and national symbol for freedom, equality, fraternity. I called the painting in the horizontal version ”Le coq se bat avec Marine“(The rooster fights avec Marine) When Emmanuel Macron won the election in the second ballot I turned the picture from the horizontal to the vertical. And the rooster was no longer the looser, he was the dominator who had won the fight. The painting received a second title: ”La victoire du coq“ (The victory of the rooster).
The original acrylic painting (120x100cm) never can show the ambiguity of the two versions at the same time. Therefore I decided to make a finart printing as well in the horizontal version „Le coq se bat avec Marine“ as well as the vertical version „La victoire du coq“ in a limited and signed edition of ten pieces.
(By the way: Emmanuel Macron has seen the pictures and transmitted me the following statement in september 2017 by his head of he cabinet: ”I was very impressed by your idea and the work that arose during my election and I wish that the originality of your paintings receive the recognition and the success they deserve.”)
