Descrizione Opera / Biografia
A folded paper boat as a symbol of a dream: finding its way into open water. Take in mind the news and the images of the continuing stream of fugitives crossing borders. It transfers the symbol of the boat into another less optimistic content. The boat suddenly becomes a symbol of illusions that another country may automatically lead to happiness. The surface of the sculpture ’Caleuche’ that Julia Winter made for this exhibition is covered with used morphine ampules. It emphasizes the thin line between hope and despair. The outcome of the ’trip’ is unknown, just like the rush of the morphine. The title ’Caleuche’ refers to an old Chilean legend in which a ghost ship, manned by deceased sailors is wandering the seas.
