Artwork description / Biography

”HIBIKI” is a sound installation that uses three elements: gravity (phenomenon), balls (mechanism) and sound (output). It is a natural law of nature that things fall due to gravity. We can confirm this law when, for example, an object falls from a desk or when we hold a load. In addition to visual perception, our bodies also perceive gravity through the semicircular canals in the inner ear. The relationship between gravity and the body is so deep that even the slightest jolt of this perception in a car can make us intoxicated. Despite this close relationship we have with gravity, we are not often aware of it. In this sound installation, a sphere repeatedly floats and falls in various patterns, ignoring the natural law of gravity. The movement of the spheres released from gravity, and the sounds produced through the floating and falling movements create a new encounter with gravity for the viewer through perception and hearing. This is a sound installation that allows the viewer to come into contact with gravity through an unprecedented perceptual experience.
