“Juneteenth” celebrates the liberation of African American slaves in June 19th 1865.
While commemorating emancipation and freedom, the artist captures one of the many daily scenes of distress and social struggle still present in American society. The city is Washington DC, also named “chocolate city”, the day is today.
Mattia is an italian-american painter based in DC. His oil paintings predominantly focus on figures captured in transient moments. He received Washington County Museum of Fine Arts Award in 2019. His works where exibited at Washington Studio School and at Howard Theatre, DC and his illustrations appeared on “Women on top of the world”, Running Press, UK, 2021.
