Descrizione Opera / Biografia

‘Are we well yet’ is an icon for the early 21st century. A time of momentous movement forward in technology, health and wealth in the western world. And yet marked with the confusing juxtaposition of rising mental health issues and a draw towards spiritual and alternative practises of medicine like yoga, star signs and healing stones. The icon is made with highly polished black paint which is juxtaposed with the ‘healing stone’ rose quartz, a stone which supposedly vibrates feelings of emotional support. Something we all need a bit of right now.
Scott’s work explores the deeper meaning that can be found in the everyday. By showing the familiar in unexpected angles, or contexts, he challenges the viewer to confront larger concepts about our contemporary reality. His work is sometimes cheeky, but always thought provoking. Originally from New Zealand but now living in Paris, his work has featured in everything from the Seoul Museum of Art to The Guardian and the BBC.
