Descrizione Opera / Biografia

The central focus of the artwork captures the captivating presence of a young woman, a symbol of purity and grace reminiscent of a Madonna. The gentle contours of her face and her serene expression project an air of innocence and vulnerability. Yet, upon closer examination, viewers are confronted with a startling and unsettling detail—a crow picking at her one eye.
Here lies the poignant message conveyed by the artist: a scathing commentary on the horrific and abhorrent practice employed by the Islamic Republic of Iran to punish young women through eye injuries. This artistic representation serves as a visual outcry against such acts of brutality, forcing the viewer to confront the profound injustices faced by women in certain societies.
While the Madonna-like figure symbolises the strength and resilience of women, the presence of the crow symbolises the oppressive forces that seek to demean and subjugate them. The crow’s actions, pecking at her eye, allude to the systematic violence inflicted upon young women, leaving a lasting impact that extends far beyond physical wounds.
This artwork aims to stimulate dialogue and raise awareness about the plight of individuals subjected to such inhumane practices. By juxtaposing elements of beauty and cruelty, the artist seeks to compel viewers to confront uncomfortable truths and question societal norms that perpetuate violence against women.
