Descrizione Opera / Biografia

German artist Ingrid Steckelberg, born in Breslau and now based in Achim, has cultivated a multifaceted artistic practice spanning over three decades. Beginning her creative journey in 1992, she honed her skills through independent studies in painting and photography, alongside courses in adult education.
Steckelbergs dedication to her craft has been recognized through numerous awards including distinctions. A member of the BBK (Association of Visual Artists) since 2000, she has also played a vital role in fostering the arts as a leader within the Worpswede artist community.
Steckelbergs work spans painting, photography, and mixed media, with a strong focus on abstraction. Her distinctive style integrates bold textures, vibrant color palettes, and dynamic compositions that engagethe viewers imagination. Working with acrylics, she employs a palette knife technique to create richly textured surfaces that transform her canvases into tactile landscapes. Her exploration of photography, particularly in macro modes, further emphasizes her interest in abstracting natural forms into aesthetic objects. Steckelbergs recent mixed media works seamlessly blend traditional painting, digital graphics, and photographic elements, reflecting her innovative approach to contemporary art-making.
In works such as „In space“ Steckelberg transports the viewer into a cosmic realm, blending dark, craggy formswith luminous celestial elements. The work recalls the visual drama of Abstract Expressionist masters such as Clyfford Still, whose rugged compositions similarly convey both raw emotion and expansive grandeur. Steckelbergs ability to balance abstraction with a sense of the sublime makes her art both intellectually and emotionally compelling. What makes Steckelberg’s practice particularly significant is her ability to traverse multiple mediums and
techniques while maintaining a cohesive artistic vision. Her works challenge the boundaries of abstraction by encouraging active viewer engagement—inviting individuals to explore the layers and discover their own interpretations. Her innovative blending of painting, photography, and digital processes positions her as a unique voice in contemporary art, demonstrating the infinite possibilities of abstract visual
language. Through her dynamic and richly textured practice, Steckelberg not only enriches the tradition of abstraction but also asserts its relevance and adaptability in the 21st century.
