Descrizione Opera / Biografia

In my series “Mirrors of the Soul”, the eye in its inexhaustible depth is at the centre of the pictorial action. Neurology adds a new facet to the examination of the central importance of the gaze and of being seen for the constitution of the self, which has run through the history of ideas and art since time immemorial. It shows how the neuronal networking between different areas of the brain is stimulated by the optic nerve, in particular connecting with the emotional center. Trauma therapy can now utilize this specifically to reintegrate split-off emotional parts of the personality. Thus, also the artistic exploration of the gaze is always a journey of research in the mirror cabinet of the soul.
