”Il Peso della Memoria”
Un uomo seduto, il volto nascosto tra le mani. La luce e il mosso trasformano il gesto in un’icona di fragilità e resistenza. Un’immagine che non documenta soltanto: ascolta, trattiene, vibra.
Statement
Fotografare non è fermare il tempo, ma attraversarlo. In Sierra Leone ho incontrato storie che non si mostrano, ma si proteggono. Il mosso è diventato il mio modo di rispettare quella distanza: non rivelare tutto, ma lasciare che la verità emerga da ciò che resta in ombra.
Biografia – Sebastiano Cosimo Auteri
Sebastiano Cosimo Auteri (Catania, 1960) è un fotografo di fine art e reportage umanista. Da oltre quarant’anni viaggia in Africa, Asia, Medio Oriente e Sud America, sviluppando una ricerca visiva che unisce rigore documentario e sensibilità pittorica. Il suo linguaggio, riconoscibile per l’uso poetico del mosso e della luce, trasforma la fotografia in una forma di memoria emotiva, capace di restituire dignità e profondità alle storie incontrate.
Il suo lavoro è stato esposto in Italia e all’estero, ottenendo premi e riconoscimenti per la capacità di coniugare estetica contemporanea e impegno sociale. Auteri indaga i margini, le fragilità e la resilienza delle comunità, con un approccio etico che privilegia l’ascolto e la relazione.
Con Nuova Genesi – Sierra Leone, progetto da cui proviene l’opera “Il peso della memoria”, Auteri esplora le tracce interiori lasciate dalla guerra civile e dalle trasformazioni sociali del Paese. La sua fotografia non descrive soltanto: evoca, suggerisce, custodisce.

”The Weight of Memory”
A man sits, his face hidden in his hands. Light and motion transform the gesture into an icon of fragility and resistance. An image that does more than simply document: it listens, holds, and vibrates.
Statement
Photography is not stopping time, but moving through it. In Sierra Leone, I encountered stories that do not reveal themselves, but protect themselves. Motion has become my way of respecting that distance: not revealing everything, but allowing the truth to emerge from what remains in the shadows.
Biography – Sebastiano Cosimo Auteri
Sebastiano Cosimo Auteri (Catania, 1960) is a fine art and humanist reportage photographer. For over forty years, he has traveled to Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and South America, developing a visual research that combines documentary rigor and pictorial sensitivity. His language, recognizable by his poetic use of motion and light, transforms photography into a form of emotional memory, capable of restoring dignity and depth to the stories he encounters.
His work has been exhibited in Italy and abroad, garnering awards and recognition for its ability to combine contemporary aesthetics and social commitment. Auteri investigates the margins, fragilities, and resilience of communities, with an ethical approach that prioritizes listening and connection.
With Nuova Genesi – Sierra Leone, the project that gave rise to the work ”Il peso della memoria,” Auteri explores the internal traces left by the civil war and the country’s social transformations. His photography does not merely describe: it evokes, suggests, and preserves.
