Artwork Description
The intertwined volcanic rocks emerge at the point that liquid becomes solid, embodying the constant creative tension between solid state and movement all in one piece. They were created through extensive experimentation with material processes, in response to the raw, restless material environment of Iceland, giving sculptural form to evidence of shifting landscapes caused by natural forces.
As the forms gave shape to that sense of otherworldliness I felt in Iceland, the textures, colours and sheen also seemed reminiscent of rocks covered in oil, of dystopian landscapes caused by
human-made ecological disaster or human inventions that have got out of control; an inhospitable future?
