Brunhilde Borms collects small treasures to translate them into portable works of art that carry many worlds. As a child, collecting tiny beauty was a way to survive. With found objects and her imagination she built small nests for protection in an unsafe reality. The art of being surprised and the love for architecture and design has never been lost on this artist. Samples carry the power to dream of possibilities. Often given away for free, the samples stimulate our brains as if we already own what we can sample. Borms combines, feels, and interweaves, because that is allowed with samples, but ultimately does not choose. She likes not to be defined by one chosen path and to honour our own fragmentation with a multitude of possibilities. The contemporary design process is characterized by the development of concepts, but can their extremely elusive nature be explained? With the Elusive series, Borms documents how one concept can have many manifestations that tell the same moving story about cherishing and creating your own story. One thought, many forms. She does this not without a nod to the beloved Bauhaus movement, which wanted to unite art and craft to reshape the world.
