In my graphic work, I describe the relationship of light and architecture. In their antagonistic combination, I find a special visual connection with the spiritual, metaphysical dimension. Architecture, governed by the rules of abstract notions—measure, rhythm, proportion, harmony— gives the elusive, ungraspable phenomenon of light enclosed in its form a distinct construct and gives the observer a sense of participation in a festive mystery. The recording of light in relation to the representation of an architectural form in a two-dimensional work creates a similar impression. Through contact with the light enclosed in the space of the picture, one finds a special kind of tranquility and contact with the absolute. I try to create my images on the threshold between the visible and the invisible, balancing between abstraction and concreteness, illusion and material reality. Using ascetic means of expression, I construct monochromatic, minimalist compositions characterized by the contrast between a black background and white light. Artwork 29.09 is made in the relief printing technique combining traditional linocut with experimental laser applications.
