Descrizione Opera / Biografia
Spettri is an audiovisual installation that explores the collective imaginary of dreams combined with the theme of identity and its duality, expressed through ego and alter ego.
Me and my alter ego Zosia Metel, a witch who inhabits my dream world, use a combination of visual and sound language to bring life to an obelisk that takes on the appearance of a contemporary bestiary.
The installation consists of a pile of eight mattresses, on which animals from specific dreams have been painted.
Being conceived as a couple work, my alter ego Zosia Metel manifests herself in the audio tracks that I produced, integrated into each mattress and accessible through speakers, playing the role of an enchanting witch, frustrated by her condition as an inhabitant of a place, the subconscious, where she coexists with the ghosts of my dreams.
The aim of Spettri is not to reconstruct the narrative behind every dream. The creative gesture emerges as a visual manifestation, a way to express what is formed in the mind. The focus is on the importance of symbols and images that populate our everyday life, on the possibility that a mattress becomes a hybrid between a living organism and an inanimate object, and on how sounds can make dream ghosts immortal.
