Premio Combat

Maria is originally from Norway but is currently based in the UK. She has an MA Degree in Social Anthropology from Norway as well as a lower degree in Photography from Bournemouth Arts University College, UK. She works on conceptual photography based art. By creating staged narratives, often through self-portraiture, she gives life to and explores her own underlying emotions. Maria was awarded Gold by the London Photographic Association in 2012. Her work has been featured on the Saatchi Online Gallery, London Print Space Gallery and the London Photographic Association in 2011-2012.
The submitted work is part of a series called 'Maternal Anxiety'. The work explores underlying worries and anxiety related to the maternal role. Maria has used herself and her son as models in the carefully staged settings. Her images attempt to create narratives that explore the underlying fear that she as a mother is subject to.
