Descrizione Opera / Biografia
Anita Rozentale graduated from Southampton Solent University in 2012 with BA in Fine Art and in September 2016 is commencing her MA degree at the internationally recognized Glasgow School of Art. For the last 6 years Anita has been creating mixed media artwork, combining drawing, painting, cyanotype, and enlarged photographs from her family’s archive. This has become a crucial part of her practice, and has continued throughout her body of work ever since she created her first mixed media piece. Her practice explores memory, nostalgia and the power of human’s mind - it aims to investigate the differences in people’s cultural, historical and social backgrounds and what makes a human being a person and how much has to be added or removed for them to lose their identity. By questioning photography as a medium on its own right, Anita plays with what at first glance appears to be real but when looking closer - surreal narratives emerge. Her most recent body of work involves the cyanotype process. Anita calls it ”painting with photographs.Anita Rozentale’s work is in private collections in the UK, Germany, Austria, Latvia, Switzerland and USA. She has exhibited in London’s Griffin Gallery and Matt Roberts Arts as part of an exhibition of Salon Art Prize 2012 finalists as well as being regional finalist in Lloyds TSB Art of Nurture competition and most recently her portrait was long-listed and reached the last 209 portraits from which 53 were picked for the shortlist for BP Portrait Award 2016.
