The starting point for the paintings are photographs that I have taken, then manipulated , de-cluttering and reducing the images to the bare necessities so that I can focus solely on the forms I find relevant. Having always been fascinated by positive and negative imagery, my work displays the inter-changing highlights between the image and the space surrounding it. Using monochromatic shades re-enforces the effect, allowing the lines defining the forms to question their boundaries, wrestling each other in various shades of light and dark so there is always a sense of ambiguity with subtlety key.
