Pamela Chapman is a Canadian artist living in Johannesburg, South Africa and Lovran Croatia. She received her MFA in painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and taught painting and drawing for ten years at Tyler School of Art at Temple University, Philadelphia. Her work has been shown in Canada and the US.
My work is a way of filtering and ordering my everyday experiences into a form of silent theatre. The images I choose mingle objects and people I know intimately with those gleaned from the media and internet, and may also include those from photos I have taken with sketches I have made. I try to compose those images as a poet might compose words. Layering and transposing imagery either within a painting or between one painting and another is a way of translating the elements of memory, thought and time that I bring to experience.
