Descrizione Opera / Biografia
Romolo Del Deo is part of an artistic family legacy, trained in the studio of his father, Salvatore Del Deo. At 18 he apprenticed as a stone sculptor in Pietrasanta, Italy and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. Returning to the US, he studied and served on the faculty of Harvard University, where he won the President’s award for Contribution to the Arts in 2000. For the past several decades he has made his primary studio in NYC. In 2011, Romolo returned to his native Provincetown to build a studio school dedicated to teaching his vision of integrating and invigorating ancient artesian methods with contemporary artistic perspectives. Romolo has exhibited widely and created public monuments in both the United States and in Europe, recently winning the Lorenzo De Medici medal for sculpture at Biennale X, Firenze and the Sculpture Prize at the International Award Competition exhibit at Palazzo Fantuzzi, Bologna, Italy.
