Descrizione Opera / Biografia
Simone Downey is a Melbourne-based, Australian artist. Simone works with a variety mediums, such as watercolor, acrylic, ink and fabric. She then experiments with shapes and colour on single sheets of paper and sees what comes out of the session. She then merges various layouts and cut-outs by scanning them into the computer and then digitally enhances the design.
Simone’s process seems to be more on the intuitive side, meaning there is not too much time spent thinking about the final outcome. Rather it’s done almost in a mediative state, where the shapes and colours take her on a journey. Sometimes it’s as simple as seeing a shape she has created in the corner of her eye that sparks curiosity into taking the design further. Bold shapes are used to draw the viewer in and soft subtle colours give a calmness to her work.
Simon’e work ‘Circles and Triangles – Peach’ is simply an experimental piece that plays with shape and texture.
