This painting is part of a series of portraits of ladies with special hats, cat hats.
LUKÁŠ KÁNDL
Born in 1944 in Prag (Czech Republic), he is married and has two children. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prag in 1969. He obtains French nationality in 1975.
From 1985 to 2002, he is the official poster artist for the international book fair in Saint-Etienne (France), gathering of several hundred world-renowned authors. In 1985 he wins the Trophée Lancôme poster competition, a major European Tour Golf event sponsored by the Lancôme firm.
1987: he is elected Member of the Salon d’Automne, a French art institution, where such artists as Paul Cézanne, and Pablo Picasso have exhibited.
1997: he is invited by the Fine Arts University of Canberra (Australia) to teach the art of the Old Masters copy.
2002: he is nominated leader of the “Visionirique-Etrange” group of the salon Comparaisons, other art institution held every year at the Grand Palais, in the heart of Paris, and where later famous artists have exhibited such as Léonor Fini, Ernst, Zao Wou-Ki, and Magritte.
In 2004, Lukáš Kándl creates the artistic movement “Libellule” and launches the first collection « Ange exquis » (exquisite Angel). On February 2020 we celebrated the 15th collection (La Fontaine)
In 2010, the city of Viechtach (Germany), also known as “The” fantastic art city of Southern Germany, invited Kándl to direct a « Fantastic Art Biennial ». Under the sponsorship of the French Minister of Education, the city of Chaumont (France), also invited Kándl to direct a « Fantastic Art Biennial ».
In 2014 he is elected member of the S.N.B.A. (Fine Arts National Salon).
Lukáš Kándl performed 79 solo shows and 500 group exhibitions. His artworks are in private collections across Germany, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Egypt, the United States, France, the Netherlands, Hong-Kong, Italy, Japan, Morocco, Czech Republic, Russia, Sweden, and Switzerland. His art appears in museums, including the Fantastic Art center in Gruyères castle (Switzerland), Phantasten Museum Wien (Austria), Michelin Art and historical Museum in Clermont-Ferrand (France), Art center Vascœuil’s Castle (France), the Contemporary Art Center in Chamalières (France), Saint-Germain-en-Laye city’s collection (France) and the Phantasten art museum in Vienna (Austria).
During his artistic life, Lukáš Kándl has received numerous awards, including the golden palm in the Art Festival in Brussels (Belgium), the prize of national council in the International Prize of Monte-Carlo (Monaco), the First prize in the Art Festival of Osaka (Japan) and the Prize of the European Foundation. He has also been elected member of the exclusive Copley Society in Boston (U.S.A.) and promoted Commander in orders of the European Star, as well as Chevalier du Tastevin in Clos de Vougeot in Burgundy (France).
In June 2019 he received the Gold Medal of the A.S.L. “Arts Sciences and Letters” Academy.
